Sahabat Spesial

Over time, the London School Center for Autism Awereness (LSCAA) would develop its commitment in building public awareness of children with autism. In the seventh year of its establishment, LSCAA would like to start contributing more widely in the form of a community that is called, “SAHABAT SPESIAL”, referring to the main objective of LSCAA.

This community aims to empower students, teachers, and parents who are concerned with disseminating various kinds of information about the world of children with autism. With the formation of this community, it is hoped that it can expand the dissemination of information so that it is no longer limited to parents and teachers but also to students.

The name SPECIAL FRIENDS symbolizes that the people in this community are friends for special children and contain special friends who always support each other.

Why SAHABAT?
Sahabat are people who are never selfish in providing support, they will always be there in difficult and happy times. It is hoped for the members in this community can become friends for children with autism.

Why SPESIAL?
Spesial is something that is different in a positive sense. Special was chosen because all members of this community have a special heart that always provides a place for children with special needs. It is hoped from the presence of this community will have a special meaning for children with autism.

Who are the members of the SAHABAT SPESIAL Community?
Students: This community will be focused on all students from various universities who are concerned about disseminating information about autism.
Teachers: Teachers who care about the existence of children with autism can become members and spread information to fellow teachers and parents of students who need it.
Parents: The experience of parents with special needs children is the most valuable source of information. The role of parents in this community is to share experiences about children with autism.

SAHABAT SPESIAL Contributions

– Socialisation about autism
– Providing a forum in the form of blogs and social media to communicate and as a medium for – sharing information
– Support similar community activities
– Opening the SAHABAT house as a place to learn about:
– How to interact with children with autism
– How to assist children with autism in learning
– How therapy can be done by parents

All activities provided by SAHABAT SPESIAL are from community members to the environment. An unclosed speaker or trainer will involve such as:
– LSPR lecturers
– Health expert
– Education expert

The house in question does not have to always be in the form of a house, but “home” as a place where we can gather and learn from each other. For the initial stage, SAHABAT SPESIAL invites collaboration with SDN Slipi 18 Pagi, West Jakarta. Where the teacher representatives from this school attended the Teachers Training event which we routinely held and conveyed that there were 50 children with special needs in different classes. Seeing this condition, it is quite good for SAHABAT SPESIAL to start their activities to focus on the SDN and its surroundings.

In the implementation, SAHABAT SPESIAL will borrow one of the classes at SDN Slipi 18 Pagi when school activities are over. By borrowing the location of SDN Slipi 18 Pagi, it will make it easier for parents who wants to learn and bring volunteers closer to the community who must be educated about autism.

The materials that will be provided are:
– Volunteering students who want to help become companion teachers in the classroom.
– Education around SDN Slipi 18 Pagi about children with special needs by students.
– Education around the residence for 50 children with special needs, so that it can help the environment to accept the presence of these children.
– Sharing with parents in order to get an idea of how to take care of children with special needs and what can be done at home.
– Sharing how parents can explain to the environment about autism.
